Where do the artists go?

One of the great things about working in a creative field is meeting creative people. I don’t feel like I’ve got nearly a tenth of the creative ability of some of those around me, but i feel like some of their creativity happens to rub off onto me every once in a while.

I was discussing art and the sale of art with my wonderfully talented girlfriend, Aimee Shultz. Her artwork is stunning. I’ll try to do it justice here, but you’ve got to see it to take it in. She takes digital photographs, but she takes them such that they’re very interesting pictures with textures and crazy shapes and images. She then takes them into photo shop, does some editing, turns them into duo tone, and prints them on huge canvases.

american teen

I happened to get a chance to see American Teen tonight. It wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, but it was definitely worth the $6 and some change.

It sort of reminded me of myself in high school, only I went to a fancy all boys catholic high school, so I didn’t really know many girls, and I wasn’t fortunate enough to be in an internationally viewed documentary. But it was close.

If you haven’t seen it, there’s this completely socially awkward band nerd who was exactly me in high school, only taller, skinnier, darker hair, a little more acne, and actually had the balls to talk to girls. It took me about an hour to work up the courage to call my date for prom, only to have her make out with some other guy on the dance floor.

That was pretty rough.

I do, however, happen to have a giant crush on Hannah Bailey. If you know her, or someone who knows her, tell her to send me a friend request on myspace.

I’ll be waiting right next to my computer.

So, go see the movie.  It’ll make you appreciate surviving your high school career.

why my house is better than yours

if you haven’t been to algiers point, you’re certainly missing out.

why the point is better than where you live:

i live about 5 minutes from a rouse’s with shelves full of ice cold schlitz. you might say, “hey i live about 5 minutes from a rouse’s with shelves full of ice cold schiltz.” well, that might be true, but that’s not the only reason algiers point is better than where you live.

i had a few friends over today and had a little bbq on my kick ass marigny style balcony, overlooking the levee and big ol’ boats passing by on the mighty mississippi. which, i’m sure i don’t have to tell you, is pretty righteous.

my house, by the way, happens to be on the national register of historic places.

it’s also on the list of places to see on the algier’s walking tour.

701 patterson – ctrl f and search. pretty sweet.

after the bbq i decided to go see a movie. i happen to like the canal place theater a lot. if you’ve never been to the canal place movie theater, it’s pretty awesome. they have all the “hip” indie movies, and they also have fancy imported chocolate.

well the canal place theater is right across the river from my apartment. i can see it from my balcony. best part is, it’s right next to the ferry landing on the river walk. i happen to live right by the ferry on the opposite side.

pretty convenient, eh? Continue Reading
