ASAE Member Mobile App

The American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) is one of the largest associations in the US and has thousands of members. The mobile member editor is a mobile application that allows their staff to view and edit member information from anywhere. It is a focused application that is easy to use and makes what could be a laborious process quick and easy

The Problem

ASAE has a very robust association management software package, but its mobile offering related to its internal database was weak. They needed a tool that would allow them to quickly and easily see basic information about a member before a meeting, potentially edit the information after talking to them, and access this information from anywhere.

The Need

ASAE staff wanted to be able to quickly search, view, and edit their members, usually on the go either on their way to a client meeting or just after on their way home.

A common struggle we heard while talking to users is that an internet connection isn’t always available while on the road. While 4G seems to be ubiquitous in some places, there are many areas of the country or even big cities (think subway) where a connection is either unavailable or too slow to do much.

The Approach

To counteract this issue we gave this application some offline capability. We knew we couldn’t store every member on the application offline as that would crush its memory. However, we could keep track of the last several members viewed and remember any changes made since the phone last had a connection. This turned out to be a perfect compromise as ASAE’s internal users would often view a member they were going to meet in the office and then would want to check back on their way. Putting in this functionality allowed them to work even when a connection was unavailable while still not overburdening the mobile device.

The Outcome

ASAE’s staff are now using the application and loving the results. It’s quick, easy, and lets them do what they need to do when they need it. They are currently examining their processes and looking to implement even more helpful features for their staff.
