BA Back Office App

work done while at Radolo

BA Backoffice is a case management system for law firms. BA Backoffice handles the entire legal process from intake through filing and managing a suit. It allows users to track record requests, contacts, tasks, and medical history in one easy to use interface.

The Problem

The current software package many small to medium-sized plaintiff law firms use is an archaic ERP system that is installed directly on a law firm’s server. It is not cloud-based and the design is not intuitive. While there were a few cloud-based options they tended to have a superficial feature set that worked OK but was not all-encompassing.

The Need

What the legal industry really needed was a cloud-based SaaS tool that had all the functionality of a robust yet archaic ERP while also having the design and usability of a modern cloud-based SaaS application. A tool that could be accessed from any device. One that removed the constraints and costs that an on-prem solution would require.

Our client’s ultimate goal was to eat their own dog food, and ultimately scale BA Backoffice to be an enterprise-ready software option for law firms across the globe, creating a steady revenue source.

The Approach

We knew that our solution had to be both well-organized and intuitive to meet the expectations of a modern user. In addition, it had to have all the functionality of an industry-standard ERP, so that no work was lost and adoption rates would be high.

To really understand the requirements we spent a lot of time working with law firm management and their team of lawyers, digging into how the current set of offerings work. Following this process, we were able to create a clickable prototype and test with end-users before any development was started.

When designing BA Backoffice our primary concern was usability. This was meant to be a SaaS offering so relatively little training would be offered and we knew it had to be easy to use and navigate. We spent a lot of time breaking down the functionality into intuitive workflows such as intake, claim management, and contacts. By doing this we were able to simplify the navigation and create a funnel of functionality that naturally led the user through the process.

The interface was designed to be clean and clutter-free. Firms would be housing a lot of information on BA Backoffice and so we strove to visually simplify the user’s experience.

The Outcome

BA Backoffice is currently being used internally with a release to a wider audience upcoming. They have seen immediate benefits such as being able to access the application from anywhere and having a far more intuitive interface. Furthermore, it has only opened their imagination to where we can take this in creating a new industry standard where law firms can easily share and refer cases without having to reenter basic information. It’s still early days, but all signs show that BA Backoffice will be a tremendous success.
